Rubbing Technique Workshop - Po Leung Kuk Museum
Rubbing is an ancient Chinese technique in obtaining copies of inscriptions on steles or similar objects. It reproduces texts by placing a sheet of fine paper on a stele and then rubbing with inked dabbers.
This workshop uses simple methods in simulating the process of rubbing. A sheet of fine paper is placed on a plaster model, and by hitting the paper repeatedly, traces of texts will be fitted into the paper. Afterwards, a dabber lightly soaked with ink will blacken the paper. With the silhouette of the texts left behind, a copy of the text is obtained.
