"Former Whitfield Barracks after Adaptive Re-use" Docent Service - Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre
Two of the remaining military buildings of Whitfield Barracks have been restored into the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre. The Kowloon Peninsula was ceded to the British in 1861. The British Army then built barracks for the training and housing of its soldiers. One of those was Whitfield Barracks at the present site of Kowloon Park. It was named after Major General H.W. Whitfield, Major General China, Hong Kong and Straits Settlements. This tour aims at introducing the history and architectural features of the Centre to the participants, its changes after restoration and the concept of adaptive re-use. Docent service of the Centre's exhibition galleries is not covered in this tour.
